Wireless A wireless system based on 802.11a/b/g (WiFi) for data communications and recently introduced voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) is becoming an increasingly important form of communication in the hospital environment. Doctors are now dependant on WiFi communications for communication of patient records, formulary and other scheduling information to their PDAs, laptops or tablet PCs. Newer VoIP phone systems also use the WiFi network for mobile handsets. In addition, the public is coming to anticipate wireless access in the hospital for communication to work or family. Technology Plus will determine St. Anthony’s requirements, perform an analysis and identify the systems capable of meeting the requirements. This will be followed by a system and/or vendor recommendation. The design will take into account the preferred solution and include equipment requirements, specifications and wireless access point (WAP) distribution to meet the connectivity and coverage requirements. Once the preferred technology has been identified a complete cost analysis will be performed. This information will be used as the basis for an RFP to be issued to qualified vendors. Technology Plus will be responsible for the RFP development, acquisition assistance and implementation oversight. |
